4-0 for Red Devils

May 7, 2010

The Red devils U10 team continued to roll, winning both ends of a doubleheader.  Yes a doubleheader in soccer.  Calvin and Ethan got the Devs going early and often, and eventually forcing the scorekeeper at Merchant to demand overtime pay.  The fans got a little rowdy in the latter innings of the second game of the doubleheader, but the Devils quieted them down with some more nifty playmaking.  Damain scored the goal of the day with a solo run into the box whereupon he cut by the keeper and blasted it home.  Evan Sleight spent several hours during the week honing his soccer skills, and he showed why he was simply the man a year ago during his undefeated run under coach Elena Nardizzi.  The Red devils continue the homestand this Sunday at 4pm.

The U14 boys stayed undefeated at home with a 2-1 win at Merchant.  Igor and Matt G, off a pass from Matt B,  scored early, and the Reds withstood a late rally to get the three points.  Matt G was pulled late in the contest and made a bold statement that the bishop play was not up to snuff.  Paul ordered bishop to be  run and Matt G quickly looked like he’d be eating his words as Bryant walked in alone , only to shank the shot wide and allow Matt G to have the final laugh.  More to come on that as the season progresses.   The walk thru play the team went over in training worked to perfection as Andrew D sheared the right flank of Benfica for a lovely cross.  John B was back sweeping and was solid but for the one time he fell victim to the classic "do you want to switch positions" prank move moments before a substitution. Very embarrassing for a veteran like John.  Next up the Reds play America FC, another undefeated team.

Sunday April 18th Fixtures

The Red Devils U10 team ran its record to 3-0 Sunday down in Dartmouth MA, just north of the equator.  Originally the game was scheduled for Normandin, a lush turf field in the suburbs of New Bedford, only to be moved to the local poison ivy bog in Dartmouth.  The poor field did not deter the Reds, as they quickly jumped in front in the opening minutes.  Goals were scored by Nathan ...

Sundays Game

April 19, 2010
The Red Devils U14 team had a great game and came out with a 5-2 win. The 1st half was filled with many off-sides, and a shot by Bryce that went off the keeper to Igor for finish. Sam played great defense for the team and didn't let anyone behind him. Matt G. played great D again, and Jake was almost unstoppable in net other than the one goal by the Black Knights. Many more chances up front from Bryant, Justin and Darian gave the players the confidence to push even harder in the second half.
